Users in Viet Nam can access the internet faster after the Asia-America Gateway (AAG) submarine cable had been fully repaired on January 23.

HA NOI (Biz Hub) — The Asia-America Gateway (AAG) submarine cable had been fully repaired as of 12:20 p.m. on January 23, which has helped restore internet capacity from Viet Nam to other countries.

News of the repair was shared by the company's management unit.

The cable was found cut at 8:05 p.m. on January 5. At the time, the cut was said to be located 117 kilometres off the Vung Tau coast. Vietnamese internet service providers were proactive in shifting their internet capacity from the cable to on-land lines to ensure continuing connectivity for customers.

Since becoming operational in 2009, the 20,000-kilometre-long cable was found cut several times, impacting service providers and internet users. In 2014 alone, two breakdowns were reported in the cable in July and September, resulting in 40 per cent loss of internet capacity. — VNS
