HA NOI (Biz Hub) — The management centre of the Asia America Gateway (AAG) submarine cable has spotted a cut in the cable 117km off Vung Tau City.
This was announced by FPT in a press release on January 6.
Viettel said on January 5 that it could take about three to four weeks to fix the severed cable.
The break has slowed down Internet connectivity between Viet Nam and other countries. After the cut was discovered, Vietnamese Internet service providers began operating via different cables to ensure net connectivity for customers.
FPT has transferred its Internet operations to mainland cables, while Viettel is operating through the TGN-Intra Asia Cable System and fibre cables via ChinaTelecom and ChinaUnicom to maintain normal Internet operations for users.
Viettel is also expected to increase its capacity via cables to Hong Kong and Singapore to meet the high demand of customers at the beginning of the year, as well as to prevent Internet congestion.
Meanwhile, the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) said that it was working with the AAG system administrator and related partners to update information and resolve the problems posed by the break in the cable. VNPT has also carried out measures to recover its capacity to ensure international Internet operations. — VNS
