HCM CITY (Biz Hub) — The economic slowdown won't stop consumers paying more to improve their health, a health and nutrition forum in HCM City was told yesterday.
In a survey, carried out with 700 consumers, retailers and enterprises in Ha Noi and HCM City, Nielsen, a global information and measurement company, found that health ranked only behind financial issues and job security for most Vietnamese.
While the slowdown had hit many industries, especially real estate and banking, causing the International Monetary Fund to revise Viet Nam's growth forecast from 5.8 per cent to 5.2 per cent for 2013, categories to do with health and nutrition were seeing double-digit growth.
The food and beverage category, excluding beer, grew 11 per cent over the last 12 months. Milk products alone grew 19 per cent.
The World Health Organisation ranked Vietnamese among the least overweight population (only 10.2 per cent of population is overweight.— VNS
