Vietnam Airlines Corporation and Singapore Technologies Aerospace Ltd (ST Aerospace) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Thursday to boost aviation operations.

The MoU was signed under the witness of Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc on the second day of his official visit to Singapore. It took place at the Viet Nam-Singapore Business Forum 2018 held in Singapore.

Under the MoU, the two sides will set up a joint venture for ST Aerospace to provide Vietnam Airlines with Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul solutions for the Airbus A321 fleet.

The joint venture will be headquartered in the Noi Bai International Airport in Hà Nội to cater to Vietnam Airlines’ requirements, focusing on maintaining hi-tech facilities of the aircraft. The two sides will also study and expand the scale of co-operation on maintenance, training and exchanging aircraft technicians.

The partnership is expected to help Vietnam Airlines shorten the turnaround time for maintenance and repairs as these activities will be carried out in Viet Nam. Currently, the planes have to be sent abroad for repairs and maintenance. It will also help save costs and create higher operational efficiency.

Deputy General Director of Vietnam Airlines Dang Ngoc Hoa said the project was a new step in the overall development of the aviation industry in Viet Nam, in which Vietnam Airlines played a pioneering role in grasping advanced science and technology of the world. — VNS
