The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) said that Việt Nam exported 6.16 million tonnes of rice in the first eight months of this year, up 5.9 per cent over the same period last year.
Revenue from rice exports reached nearly US$3.85 billion, a year-on-year growth of 21.7 per cent.
Vietnam News Agency quoted the MARD as saying that along with the increase in output, the average rice export price in the first eight months also rose about 14.8 per cent, reaching $625 per tonne.
In the domestic market, prices of many types of rice in the Mekong Delta region remained stable last week compared to the previous week.
Specifically, rice in the Cửu Long (Mekong) Delta province of An Giang remained unchanged for popular varieties such as Đài Thơm 8, OM 5451 and OM 18.
For retail rice, regular rice is priced from VNĐ15,000 ($0.62) to VNĐ16,000 per kilogramme, while long-grain fragrant rice is about VNĐ20,000 ($0.80) to VNĐ21,000 per kilogramme. — VNS
