HA NOI (Biz Hub) — Viet Nam's shrimp exports to Germany saw robust growth in the first five months of 2014 with turnover of nearly US$51 million, up 92.7 percent from the previous year.

Nearly 62 per cent came from white-leg shrimp and 30 per cent from black tiger prawns, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

With a population of over 80 million, the largest European economy is forecast to see increasing demand for imported shrimp and other aquatic products in the future.

Viet Nam is now the second-largest supplier of frozen shrimp for Germany after Thailand. Germany's 2013 shrimp imports from Viet Nam rose by nearly 4 per cent compared to those of previous years, while those from Thailand went down 11 per cent, according to the International Trade Centre. — VNS
