Infrastructure Investment and Transportation Construction Joint Stock Company (Intracom) met with Quang Tri Province to discuss the research of the first-ever offshore wind farm in the province.

The two sides also worked on March 19 on an additional document to add the farm into the national grid and the power planning VIII energy policy.

According to the proposal, the offshore wind farm has a total project investment of VND72 trillion (US$3.1 billion) and a capacity of 1,000 MW over an area of 22,000 ha.

It will be 15km from Con Co Marine Protected Area, and 8km from My Thuy port.

Intracom said the initial survey of the project research area did not overlap with the sea in terms of national security and defence, aquaculture, or My Thuy port planning.

The Intracom offshore wind farm was designed to be connected on the 500kV transmission line from Vung Ang to Da Nang, or on the 500kV transmission line from Quang Trach to Doc Soi.

Standing Vice Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People’s Committee Ha Si Dong said: “It is a project that brings efficiency and high economic results for the locality, thereby showing the determination of investors in the process of researching.”

Dong told functional sectors to accompany and support investors in project planning and ensure the legal regulations on project-related matters.

He requested the Department of Industry and Trade to act as the focal point to guide investors in completing procedures and documents and to draft the provincial People’s Committee’s manuscript of energy plan to send to the Government and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, requesting to be added to power planning VIII at the earliest time.

Previously, 16 of 8 wind power projects were built. The mountainous district of Huong Hoa has been recognised for commercial operation, enjoying the FIT price from November 1, 2021.

Earlier, Quang Tri strived to become the energy centre of the central region with a capacity of about 13,000 to 15,000MW.

By 2025, it planned to achieve a power generation capacity of about 4,000MW and about 10,000MW by 2030. — VNS
