HCM CITY (Biz Hub) – The volume of goods shipped by Maersk Line Viet Nam and Cambodia carriers for the first quarter was 2 per cent higher than last year during the same period, representing an increase in revenue of 5 per cent.

Maersk Line Viet Nam director Nguyen Thi Ngoc Bich said the country remained a "sourcing destination with competitive advantages in low labor costs, a strategic geographical location, leading agricultural exports, high GDP growth rate and long term political stability."

"As a result, despite the gloomy situation of the global economy, there are still great opportunities to pursue," she said.

Maersk Line in Viet Nam and Cambodia grew 7 per cent in 2012 over the previous year.

For the remainder of this year, the world's largest carrier, Maersk Line, will focus on increasing profitability levels by delivering excellent customer experiences and reducing its cost base.

According to the A. P. Moller-Maersk Group, global demand for seaborne containers is expected to increase by 2 to 4 per cent in 2013.

Although the figure will be lower on the Asia-Europe route, it will be supported by higher growth of imports to emerging economies. — VNS
