The first phase of the Phu Lac wind power plant in the south central province of Binh Thuan has been inaugurated on Friday.

In the first phase, the plant, located in Tuy Phong District’s Phu Lac Commune, will use 12 turbines with a total capacity of 24MW. These turbines are operated using advanced technology from Denmark’s Vestas and Sweden’s HBB.

The total investment for the project was nearly VND1.1 trillion (US$49.3 million), of which 85 per cent came from a loan from the German KfW Development Bank.

In September, the plant began commercial operations and connected with the national grid.

Speaking at the event, Luong Van Hai, vice-chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, said that Binh Thuan has offered numerous incentives to attract investments in wind power. Up to 19 wind power projects have been registered in the province to date.

The Phu Lac facility is the third wind power plant in Binh Thuan to become operational, along with the ones in Tuy Phong and Phu Quy districts. Together, they have raised the province’s total wind power capacity from 36MW to 60MW. — VNS
