A delegation of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam) and the PetroVietnam Exploration Production Corporation (PVEP) had a working visit to Venezuela from May 28 to 31.

The delegation was headed by Trần Bình Minh, Petrovietnam’s Consulting Council member, Trần Quốc Việt, president of PVEP’s Consulting Council and Trịnh Việt Thắng, PVEP’s Consulting Council member.

The delegation had important working sessions with the Venezuelan Ministry of Petroleum (MENPET), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Venezuelan National Oil Company (PDVSA), the Venezuelan Oil Company (CVP) - PVEP's partners at Junin 2 Project, Petromacareo Joint Venture Company, and the Vietnamese Embassy and representatives of Vietnamese political organisations in Venezuela.

At the meeting with Deputy Minister of Oil and Gas of Venezuela, Erick Pérez, the two sides affirmed that the Junin 2 Project is the result of traditional friendship co-operation and the "petroleum diplomacy" relationship between Việt Nam and Venezuela.

Therefore, the implementation of the project must bring harmonious benefits to the two countries and the investors.

Pérez said that MENPET side was very interested in the project's issues and recognised and appreciated the Petrovietnam/PVEP’s proposals for possible options for the next period of the project.

The Ministry of Oil and Gas, PVDSA, CVP and PVEP agreed that the two sides needed to set up a joint study group to consider the orientation for the project with the goal of ensuring the socio-economic efficiency of Venezuela and efficiency for PVEP/CVP investors.

With the current political-economic situation and investment environment of Venezuela being more positive, Pérez hoped that the investment activities of Việt Nam in general and of the oil and gas sector in particular would be further strengthened and more and more effective.

Bình participated in the general meeting of shareholders of PetroMacareo Joint Venture Company in Caracas on May 30.

Within the framework of the working trip, the delegation visited and worked with Vũ Trung Mỹ, Vietnamese Ambassador to Venezuela, and Titania Pugh Morento, Venezuela’s deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of Asia, PDVSA and CVP on related issues.

Representatives of Venezuela’s Ministry of Oil and Gas and partners shared the difficulties and obstacles during implementing the project and also gave positive actions for the two sides to soon have proposals for the next stages of the project. — VNS
