Can Tho City signed an agreement with housing developer Novaland Group, US management consulting firm Boston Consulting Group, and Military Bank to draft strategies for developing tourism in the Cửu Long (Mekong) Delta.
Bui Thanh Nhon, chairman of Novaland, said: “Hopefully [we] can develop suitable models for developing tourism in the region. The models should be of international standards but retain the traditional features of river life in the Mekong Delta.”
The partners would also seek to increase people’s knowledge of the environment.
Professional tourism services would be developed and small and medium-sized enterprises would receive assistance so that more jobs are created, he said.
The delta is the agriculture hub of the country, but also one of the places that will be most affected by climate change, meaning it needs comprehensive solutions to ensure continued development in future.
Intra-delta co-operation is expected to boost links with companies and organisations and bring investments.
An estimated 300,000 jobs will be created by 2020 thanks to the development of the tourism sector. — VNS
