Major streets in downtown capital closed for late President’s funeral

Some 20 major streets in downtown Ha Noi will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday for the State funeral of the late President Tran Dai Quang.

All vehicles will be banned on streets around the National Funeral Home at No 5 on Tran Thanh Tong Street on these two days.

They will also be banned on the streets of Tang Bat Ho, Nguyen Cong Tru, Yersin, Tran Thanh Tong, Nguyen Huy Tu, Le Quy Don, Nguyen Cao, Han Thuyen, Hang Chuoi and Pham Dinh Ho on Wednesday.

From 6am to 10pm on Wednesday and from 6am to 12pm on Thursday, trucks with a capacity from 500kg and coaches with more than 25 seats will be restricted on the streets of Ly Thuong Kiet, Tran Hung Dao, Hai Ba Trung, Le Thanh Tong, Lo Duc, Nguyen Cong Tru, Tran Khanh Du, Tran Quang Khai, Pho Hue, Le Duan, Ngo Thi Nham, Dai Co Viet, Tran Khat Chan, Ba Trieu and Hang Bai.

From 6am to 12pm on Thursday, trucks and buses with more than 25 seats will not be allowed to enter a number of streets in downtown area, including Tran Thanh Tong, Le Thanh Tong, Trang Tien, Hang Khay, Trang Thi, Dien Bien Phu, Hoang Dieu, Hoang Van Thu, Doc Lap, Chu Van An and Tran Phu.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on Monday issued an official order on ceasing all entertainment activities during the two-day State funeral.

It also requested all State-owned agencies and organisations to fly national flags at half-mast throughout these days.

Delegations visiting the National Funeral Home to bid farewell to the late President are requested not to bring wreaths. Black armbands are allowed.

The late President Tran Dai Quang passed away at the 108 Military Hospital on September 21 morning due to serious illness. He was 62. — VNS
