KIEN GIANG (Biz Hub) — The Mekong Delta Province of Kien Giang granted 30 investment licences in the first six months this year, according to the provincial People's Committee.

The projects are related to various fields, including agriculture, industry, tourism and trade.

They have a total registered capital of more than VND11.98 trillion (US$550 million), and they will be spread over an area of 611 hectares.

The Committee said the province had been working with the relevant agencies to implement major projects, such as the Kien Giang Thermal Power Plant in the Xeo Ro industrial zone, and Petrovietnam projects to build synthetic oil service port infrastructure and dedicated fuel storage on Phu Quoc Island.

The province has also worked on accelerating the implementation of projects in the Thanh Loc industrial zone in Chau Thanh District.

The Thanh Loc industrial zone has eight projects under construction and another nine registered.

Other industrial zones and the Ha Tien border gate economic zone have attracted 20 projects with a total investment capital of VND4.17 trillion ($191 million).

Kien Giang has also revoked the licences of two projects because they were not implemented on schedule.

They include a project to build an eco-tourism site in Kien Hai District. The Kien Giang MTV Construction Investment and Housing Development Company had invested in the project, which was worth VND85.6 billion ($3.9 million), according to HCM City Law newspaper.

The project was scheduled to become operational in 2014, but only 7 per cent of the total investment capital has been invested so far. -VNS
