HA NOI (Biz Hub) – Inter RAO Group from Russia will build the Quang Trach 2 thermopower plant project on a build-operation-transfer basis in the central Quang Binh province's Quang Trach District.

According to a memorandum of understanding signed between the provincial authorities and the group this week, the plant will have an investment capital of US$2.4 billion, including two main turbines with a total designed capacity between 1,200MW and 1,320MW.

The project is scheduled to become operational by 2024.

The local authorities have pledged to create the best possible conditions for the investor in accordance with the country's current regulations and policies. They will also support work on land clearance, and in providing infrastructure, including roads, electric wires and water, to the construction area.

The province has been building the Quang Trach 1 thermopower plant, where the Vietnam Petrol and Gas Group is the investor. The VND34 trillion ($1.59 billion) plant has a capacity of 1,200MW.

However, due to economic problems and other factors, the construction process has been delayed. The plant is now expected to be operational by 2020. – VNS
