Dong Nai Province authorities have asked the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to send an inspection team to the Phuoc Tan industrial complex to examine its illegal construction of factories.
Even though the complex has not been granted an investment licence, the investor has sold land to businesses to build factories illegally.
Nearly 60 factories have been constructed illegally in the area, according to local authorities.
Nguyen Hoa Hiep, vice chairwoman of Dong Nai People’s Committee, said earlier inspections had been conducted by Bien Hoa City People’s Committee, but they took too long.
As a result, the provincial People’s Committee decided to set up an inspection team led by the Department of Natural Resources and Environment.
The inspection will examine investment procedures, business registration, land use, construction permits, power supply, taxes, fire prevention and fighting, among others.
Nguyen Ngoc Thuong, deputy director of the provincial Department of Natural Resources and Environment, said the results of the inspection would be reported to the Dong Nai People’s Committee, which will then report to the Government.
The Phuoc Tan industrial cluster, located in Phuoc Tan Commune in Bien Hoa City, covers 72 hectares of land that had been set aside by the Government for a forested area.
To be used as an industrial complex, approval must be received by the Ministry of Construction and a reciprocal area in Bien Hoa City for planting trees must be allocated.
The illegal construction of factories, with an investment of VND1trillion (US$42.95 million), covers 150,000 square metres at the industrial cluster, according to local authorities. — VNS
