The Customs Department of HCM City on Monday deployed the Vietnam Automated System for Seaport Customs Management (VASSCM) for more than 60 businesses dealing in ports, warehouses and yards in HCM City.

The system officially started operating at the Tan Cang - Cat Lai and Tan Thuan ports on Friday. It optimises the delivery of goods from port dealers, helping customs officers efficiently manage goods at ports, warehouses and yards.

Dinh Ngoc Thang, director of the municipal Customs Department, said that the VASSCM made a breakthrough in customs management in the direction of modernity and transparency, helping the customs officers strengthen their work to combat smuggling and trade fraud.

In order to effectively implement this new automated management system, Thang recommended the operators of ports, warehouses and yards and export-import companies coordinate closely with the customs office to accelerate the deployment of the system.

According to the HCM City Customs Department, the implementation of this new management system allows customs declarants not to show paper documents when delivering goods through the customs supervision area as before, which reduces costs.

In addition, it helps port operators, warehouses and yards strictly control the goods put into operation, taking the initiative in loading and unloading, raising the capacity of exploiting and releasing goods and reducing costs by minimising paperwork between the parties.

After the ports of Tan Cang - Cat Lai and Tan Thuan, from August 28, the department will continue to deploy the system at the SPTC port. It is expected that in September this year, it will be implemented at all ports, warehouses and other places in the city. — VNS
