Grab Company Limited has agreed to share its traffic data with the HCM City Department of Transport in an effort to help the city reduce traffic congestion.

Information about vehicles that use the Grab app and the transport route of these vehicles will be included in a database

Based on the data, the transport department will analyze, simulate and forecast the traffic situation on each route at specific times. It will then make appropriate adjustments to reduce traffic congestion.

Jerry Lim, general director of Grab Viet Nam, said that Grab had worked with other city governments in Singapore, Jakarta and Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Grab and the transport department have been conducting a pilot project to arrange electric motorbikes for rent in some central areas. The project will expand to more areas of the city in 2020.

Tran Quang Lam, director of the department, said that electric motorbikes would be used more frequently in the future, helping to reduce pollution and traffic congestion.— VNS
