HA NOI (Biz Hub)—Gemadept Corporation launched the official inauguration of Nam Hai Dinh Vu Container Port and put it into operation in the northern city of Hai Phong on May 6.

The port, located in Dinh Vu Industrial Zone, was built with an investment of VND1 trillion (US$47.6 million).

According to the investor, the port was built with a pier of length 450 metres and a total area of 150,000 square metres. The port has a capacity of 500,000 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit, a standard size container) per year, and the construction of the port was actually completed in late 2013.

Gemadept general director Do Van Minh reported that the port was included in the corporation's expansion to the northern market, contributing to an enhancement of its position.

Founded in 1990, the corporation owns and exploits the large port system stretching from north to south in Viet Nam. It also operates three branches in Singapore, Malaysia and Cambodia. — VNS
