HA NAM (Biz Hub) – Japanese group Showa Denko's general director Daiken Murakami has discussed with the Ha Nam People's Committee about building a factory that will produce clean vegetables in the province.

Murakami introduced his group's technique of using LED lights for growing vegetables indoors. The technique reportedly helps increase the productivity of vegetables by 2.5 times, compared to those grown outdoors in natural light.

In addition, the method helps reduce the amount of post-harvest wastage to 10 per cent from 50 per cent, and therefore protects the environment and cuts expenses.

Murakami said that Showa Denko has built 21 such factories in Japan and plans to replicate the model in other countries.

In Ha Nam, a company named An Phu Hung is co-operating with HBC International Company, also from Japan, in growing organic vegetables for domestic and international markets.

The provincial party cell's leader suggested that Showa Denko should co-operate with An Phu Hung to conduct trials of its technology. – VNS
