Innovative technologies and solutions in industries such as power, renewable energy, smart grids, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration are on show at the Electric & Power Vietnam and HVACR Vietnam that opened in HCM City on Wednesday.
The expos have attracted more than 350 exhibitors from more than 15 countries and territories, including China, Germany, India, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan (China), Thailand, Turkey, and the US.
Electric & Power Vietnam 2024 offers solutions for measurement, testing, monitoring, and safety in the power sector, alongside smart solutions, automation technologies, electric vehicles, and environmental services.
HVACR Vietnam 2024 showcases products spanning the entire value chain of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning, cooling and refrigeration for smart buildings and industrial parks.
The two events are expected to attract 7,000 trade attendees by offering a key platform for businesses to explore global industrial advancements, connect with partners and customers, and attend international conferences.
There will be international conferences and specialised seminars on topics like energy transition, smart grid, data centres, and advanced air-conditioning solutions.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Peter Lundberg, executive director of the Asia Pacific Urban Energy Association (APUEA), said Việt Nam stands at a critical crossroads in its energy journey.
Like many other countries in the region, it is also faced with the dual challenges of meeting growing energy demands while addressing the urgent need to reduce carbon emissions.
Currently much of its energy comes from coal, a resource that, while abundant, has a significant carbon footprint, he said.
In response to these challenges, Việt Nam has set ambitious climate goals, committing to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, no small task but a necessary one, he said.
He said the potential for renewable energy in Việt Nam is enormous.
According to the International Renewable Energy Agency, Việt Nam has an estimated 1.2 terawatts of renewable energy potential, 15 times the current installed capacity, he pointed out.
“But the energy transition is not just about renewables. It’s also about using energy smarter. The International Energy Agency has pointed out that energy efficiency is as crucial to this transition as the development of renewable energy.
“By adopting energy-efficient technologies and practices, we can reduce our overall energy demand, lower costs, and decrease our reliance on fossil fuels.”
At the two events top experts would present cutting-edge technologies and innovative solutions that could help Việt Nam achieve its energy goals, he added.
Organised by Informa Markets Việt Nam, the expos, being held at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Centre in District 7, will run until Friday. —VNS
