A joint networking programme to boost partnerships between Vietnamese and Danish enterprises was announced by the HCM City Investment and Trade Promotion Centre (ITPC) and the Andersen Consulting Group of Denmark on Tuesday.

Danish firms participating in the event said Viet Nam is a potential market for high-quality products such as organic foodstuffs and machinery used in aquatic product processing and production.

They also evaluated Viet Nam as a lucrative destination for Danish retailers, thanks to the nation’s large population and fast economic growth.

A representative from FynboFoods said the firm wants to co-operate with domestic supermarkets and retailers to bring Danish foodstuffs and services to Vietnamese consumers.

Pham Thi Thu Huong, Deputy Director of Dong Phong Mechanical Co, said collaboration with Danish partners will offer opportunities for Vietnamese firms to become distributors of Danish products and provide access to their technologies, thus improving products to meet market demand.

According to the General Department of Cutoms, two-way trade between Viet Nam and Demark saw a significant increase of nearly 20 per cent to US$464 million in three quarters of 2016. Vietnamese exports hit more than US$200 million, down 5 per cent year-on-year, while its imports from the company rose 50 per cent to $261 million.

Among Viet Nam’s export items were textiles and garments, footwear, seafood, machinery and equipment, wood and wooden products--while its main imports were chemicals, pharmaceuticals, steel and iron, electronics and components. — VNS
