DA NANG (Biz Hub) — The central city's administration plans to open a representative office in Osaka, Japan, to boost investment and trade between the two cities.

Vice-Chairman of the city's people's committee Phung Tan Viet made the announcement at a meeting with Chairman of Japan's Brain Works Group Noboru Kondo.

Viet said the city has taken many drastic measures and introduced favourable conditions to draw investment from Japanese investors in the coming years.

He said the city's liaison office in Osaka would play a key role for prolonged co-operation and relationship between Da Nang and Kansai.

The vice-chairman said the city also planned to open a direct air route between Da Nang and Osaka, the second direct route after the Da Nang-Narita flights launched by Vietnam Airlines last year.

Osaka will be the third city in Japan – after Tokyo and Yokohama – with which Da Nang wants closer ties to smoothen the way for co-operation between Japanese and Vietnamese businesses.

Noboru Kondo said he has been looking at Da Nang as a multi-field investment destination for the Brain Works Group, such as for setting up Japanese restaurant chains, and promoting information technology and sport facilities as well as investment promotion activities by Kansai.

Last month, the city organised an investment promotion event involving hi-tech, tourism and real estate sectors for the Japanese Business Association.

The city has 372 FDI projects with a total capital of $3.5 billion, of which 89 projects worth $378 million are from Japan.

The city's investment promotion centre also launched its Japanese Desk Da Nang team, which will be available every Wednesday to help Japanese investors with information about administrative procedures, investment licences, priority policies and other adjustments.

The city plans to build a 134ha industrial park for medium and small-sized businesses from Japan.

Last year, the central city's ports and the port of Kawasaki in Japan agreed to open a shipping route connecting Da Nang and Kawasaki in Japan. — VNS
