Artificial intelligence, machine learning, computational chemistry and materials, and the link between climate change and urban inundation are among the topics being discussed at the two-day International Conference on Computational Science and Engineering that opened in HCM City on July 25.
Speakers include Prof Ho Tu Bao of John von Neumann Institute in Viet Nam, Prof Yuko Okamoto of Nagoya University in Japan and Prof Nguyen Van Thanh Van of McGill University in Canada.
Organised by the Institute for Computational Science and Technology (ICST), the conference will discuss research achievements in the field of computational science and technology, foster the practical application of these achievements and initiate training and research co-operation between international institutions.
Bao said many countries have recently announced AI strategies for national development and the media also talks a lot about AI and machine learning.
He spoke about the latest advances in AI, particularly breakthroughs in machine learning, and their relevance to scientific research, and AI applications in healthcare, transportation, material sciences, and others.
This year the conference is organised together with the 10th anniversary celebrations of the ICST.
In his opening remarks, Nguyen Viet Dung, director of the HCM City Department of Science and Technology, said the ICST has attracted overseas Vietnamese experts and scientists.
“I hope in the near future the ICST will not only promote basic science research but also focus on solving urgent problems [faced by the city] such as flooding, traffic congestion, pollution, and other social-economic issues.” — VNS
