The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has recently asked the Ministry of Transport to approve its detail planning adjustments for Phu Quoc International Airport in the southern province of Kien Giang and Pleiku Airport in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai.

The proposal was made according to Decision No 236/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister approving the adjustments to air transport planning in the 2020-30 period, in which Phu Quoc International Airport is determined to increase its capacity to four million visitors per year by 2020 and 10 million visitors by 2030.

Meanwhile, Pleiku Airport is set to welcome two million passengers per year by 2020 and four million by 2030 in order to meet the increasing travel demand as well as socio-economic development of Gia Lai in particular and the central region in general.

CAAV said that the planning adjustment project for Phu Quoc Airport from now to 2030 would include calling for investment, upgrading and expanding the site, to meet the increasing demand of aviation transport.

In the past, the airport was upgraded with infrastructure and services including its apron, passenger terminals and roads in order to increase capacity. At the end of last year, it received 3.2 million passengers. — VNS
