HA NOI (Biz Hub) — The southern province of Binh Duong at a ceremony on Wednesday handed over investment licences to 41 FDI projects, which have a combined capital of US$146 million.

According to Director of the provincial Department of Planning and Investment Mai Hung Dung, there are 10 FDI projects from Japan, nine from the Republic of Korea, five from mainland China, four from Hong Kong and three from Taiwan. Eight licences were issued after May 15.

This is a positive sign for the province as it was one of the three localities which were most affected by the disturbances which occurred on May 13 and 14. On these days, some individuals took advantage of workers' rallies being held to protest China's illegal placement of its Haiyang Shiyou-981 drilling rig in Viet Nam's waters, to incite others to damage and loot the assets of some foreign companies and factories.

Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Le Thanh Cung said that since then, 98 per cent of the affected businesses have resumed their operations.

In the first five months of 2014, the locality attracted $978.4 million in FDI, up 14.9 per cent year on year. — VNS
