ACV to expand Pleiku Airport

HA NOI (Biz Hub) — The Airport Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) plans to start the expansion and renovation of Pleiku Airport in the central highlands province of Gia Lai.

ACV announced on August 20 that the project will increase the length of the runway and taxiway, and expand the parking space at Pleiku Airport.

 The project's VND945 billion (US$45 million) investment will be co-funded by the State budget, ACV and Gia Lai.

Currently, the airport is being used by both civil and military planes, with five flight routes to HCM City, two routes to Ha Noi and one to Da Nang City on small FK70 and AT72 planes or their equivalent.

Once completed, Pleiku Airport would be able to handle the A320/ 321 aircraft or their equivalent, in accordance with the development plan of Vietnam Airlines and other airlines.

ACV estimated that the project would take 18 months to be completed and the Airport could be shut down for six months for the expansion.

In 2013, the airport served 319,000 passengers. It aims to receive about 330,000 passengers in 2014. — VNS
