VinaCapital Foundation has announced a donation of VND2.3 billion (US$99,000) to help improve healthcare for children in the northern mountainous provinces of Cao Bang and Bac Kan.

The money is given through VCF’s critical response programme, which is implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Health.

On July 3 VCF donated medical equipment to the Cao Bang General Hospital, including one ventilator, two continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machines, two phototherapy machines, two peripheral capillary oxygen saturation (SPO2) machines, and two intubation tubes.

It also gave the Bac Kan General Hospital and eight district-level hospitals 10 crash carts, one phototherapy machine, one infant warmer, and one electrocardiography (ECG) machine.

In May doctors and nurses in Bac Kan Province underwent advanced paediatric life support (APLS) training, which focused on a quick and co-ordinated response to an urgent situation so a child can receive the best treatment.

VCF’s critical response programme, begun in 2009, focuses on improving paediatric care and reducing mortality among children aged under five.

In 2015 VCF partnered with the Ministry of Health to expand the programme to 25 northern mountainous provinces and provide APLS courses nation-wide. —VNS
