Viettel Telecom is aiming to create a boom in the mobile sector to bring smartphones to 100 per cent of people and supply Internet of Things (IoT) services to 50 per cent of connected devices in Viet Nam by 2025.

Cao Anh Son, Viettel Telecom general director, made the statement at a ceremony to mark the company's 15th anniversary on Monday.

Viettel Telecom will continue to invest in expanding 4G and 5G coverage to maintain its position as the largest data network operator in the country with a speed of 1.5 Gbps by 2025, much faster than the current 4G.

In order to achieve this goal, Viettel Telecom needed a strong digital transformation, said Son, putting customers as the centre and providing digital services such as television, cloud data, big data analytics, IoT and video on demand on the 4G and 5G platforms.

Speaking at the event, Major General Le Dang Dung, chairman cum general director of the Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group, believed that Viettel would achieve its goals.

The data growth rate in the last three years had been above 30 per cent per year, bandwidth and user traffic had increased by three to five times, and the number of smartphones had grown rapidly, he said.

Also at the event, Viettel Telecom officially launched a personal data storage service on cloud platform Lifebox, which is integrated with the MyViettel application. — VNS
