Vietnam Packaging Recycling Alliance (PRO Viet Nam) cooperates with Tetra Pak Group (Sweden) and Circular Action to purchase and recycle 3,000 tonnes of shells and paper boxes into useful products.

The program is piloted in HCM City from August 2022 to March 2023 to purchase and completely recycle 3,000 tonnes of paper boxes into useful products such as paperboard materials and ecological roofing.

Eliseo Barcas, managing director of Tetra Pak Vietnam, said: "Evolved from the model of collecting paper boxes through scrap collectors initiated by Tetra Pak in the 2010s, the programme promoting the collection of paper boxes after use for recycling has always been one of the core activities of Tetra Pak's sustainable development."

"We do this to realise the commitment to protect the environment, including protecting food, people and the earth, which Tetra Pak has pursued for decades."

The group said the programme was its affirmation as a food processing and packaging solution provider in supporting its customers to fulfil the responsibility of collecting packaging after sale.

Pham Phu Ngoc Trai, president of PRO Vietnam, said: "This is one of the pioneering projects, demonstrating PRO Vietnam's strong commitment to implementing Extended Manufacturer's Responsibility, which will come into effect in 2024, and at the same time demonstrating the spirit of 'Let's work together to build a green - clean - beautiful Viet Nam.'" — VNS.
