The fifth edition of the Techcombank Ho Chi Minh City International Marathon to be held from December 9 to 11 is expected to attract 14,000 local and international runners.
The race is now accredited in the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races.
It is the largest annual marathon event in Viet Nam and also one of the races that has the highest number of foreign participants, with runners from 64 countries and territories joining the event this year.
The event features four runs: a marathon (42.195 km), a half-marathon (21.1km), a 10km race, and a 5km race. There will also be a kids run.
Participants will run through five districts, starting from Le Duan Street in District 1 (in front of the Zoological and Botanical Garden), passing by the city’s numerous historic and iconic landmarks before finishing at Empire City in Thu Duc city.
Nguyen Thi Anh Hoa, director of the HCM City Department of Tourism, said the Techcombank Ho Chi Minh City International Marathon is part of HCM City Tourism Week 2022 from December 5 to 11, with a series of tourism, sports, music and culinary events to be held to promote the city’s tourism, offer exceptional experiences for visitors and increase their length of stay and spending.
The marathon’s organising committee will open Marathon Village from 8:00 a.m. on December 9 to 2:00 p.m. on December 11 to serve the public and attract domestic and foreign tourists.
The marathon is open for registration until November 25 at www.marathonhcmc.com. Participants can register as individuals, businesses, charity organisations or running clubs.
The event is co-organised by the city Department of Culture and Sports, Department of Tourism, the HCM City Athletics Federation, Sunrise Viet Nam, and Techcombank. — VNS
