More than 100 employees of MSD Vietnam and their family members donated their blood at a blood donation day on December 16.

"This year, we hosted this blood donation day with an aim to spread the spirit of social responsibility, promoting the tradition of giving back to the community as a global leading biopharmaceutical company. The blood donation day will continue to be organised annually in the following years, as a part of our commitment to save and improve the lives of people in Viet Nam," said Jennifer Cox, Managing Director of MSD Vietnam.

“We highly appreciate that many MSD Vietnam employees and their families actively responded to the blood donation day. One pint of blood can save up to three lives. The blood donated by volunteers today will help save the lives of those in need,” said Nguyen Thi Hong Nhung, Deputy Head of Red Cross, District 1, HCM City.

According to a World Health Organisation report in 2019, the blood supply in Viet Nam for treatment of injuries, accidents, and surgery for people requiring a blood transfusion only meets 70 per cent of patients' needs. In addition, after two years of social distancing due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, blood reserves at blood banks and hospitals are still in short supply.

On December 14, MSD Vietnam received the Minister of Health’s Certificate of Merit in recognition of its contributions to disease awareness campaigns and patient support programmes. — VNS
