Nestlé’s MILO has launched a new product called Milo Balance Breakfast Drink for children with three types of cereals -- oats, brown rice and wheat -- in addition to its main contents of milk, cocoa and malted barley.
The company said the product has a balanced ratio of protein-sugar-fat nutrients in line with the Viet Nam National Institute of Nutrition’s table of recommended nutrient intake.
Dr Tran Khanh Van, deputy head of the institute’s micro-nutrition department, said: "Breakfast is an important meal of the day, providing 25-30 per cent of the energy for the whole day. However, children’s breakfast food is not yet diversified and does not meet the nutritional needs."
According to research conducted by the institute and other scientific studies, children’s breakfast now has an energy shortage of nearly 10 per cent.
The new product, which supplies sufficient calcium, fibre, vitamins and mineral contents and a balance of protein-sugar-fat, provides children with adequate and balanced nutrition, helping them improve their concentration and achieve good academic results as well as optimise the healthy development of muscles and bones.
The product comes in a 200ml pack and is available at supermarkets and shops in big cities at VND28,000 for a three-pack. — VNS
