The Lotte Group and Lotte Foundation on Monday handed over scholarships worth US$400 each to 54 outstanding students from nine universities in HCM City at an awards ceremony.

The awardees are from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities; the University of Economics HCM City; the University of Finance and Marketing; the HCM City University of Foreign Languages and Informatics; the HCM City University of Food Industry; the HCM City University of Agriculture and Forestry; Hoa Sen University; Ton Duc Thang University; and HCM City University of Industry.

Lotte Group also offered the awardees opportunities to intern and find a suitable job after graduation at its companies in Viet Nam.

Nguyen Truong Kim Anh, one of the awardees from the HCM City University of Agriculture and Forestry, thanked the foundation and said the scholarship would help her reduce her financial burden.

“The material value from this scholarship does not matter compared to the spiritual value it has brought,” she said.

Founded in 1983 in Korea by the group’s chairman Shin Kyuk Ho, the Lotte Foundation aims to motivate students to keep trying harder.

More than 3,000 scholarships worth a total $1.5 million have been given to outstanding students in Viet Nam, Indonesia, Malaysia, China, Myanmar and Pakistan.

Since 2008, Lotte scholarships have benefited hundreds of students in HCM City, Ha Noi, Da Nang City and Phu Yen Province. — VNS
