Information and communication technologies company Lenovo, has announced plans to double its global R&D investment and hire 12,000 researchers in the next three years.
R&D remains a critical priority for it in fiscal 2022-23, and it hired 5,000 the previous year, the company said.
“My vision for Lenovo’s innovation is to become one of the world’s leading ICT companies, a pioneer and enabler of intelligent transformation,” chairman and CEO Yuanqing Yang said.
“Our investment plan will centre around the ‘client-edge-cloud-network-intelligence” architecture.
“Our intention is to optimise between technology with quick market returns and foundational research, and between continuous improvement and breakthrough innovation.”
Thus, the R&D efforts will focus on new and emerging IT architecture, and the company will work on new products and business model innovation, incubating technologies from edge computing to technology which will help businesses capitalise on the metaverse, and on emerging and disruptive innovations like next-generation AI and heterogeneous computing.
