Japanese Pasona Group will join hands with Đà Nẵng’s Investment Promotion Agency (IPA) to boost investment from Japan to the central city by supporting businesses in investment expansion and human resources training in 2023-25.

The two partners agreed to draw Japanese investors to Đà Nẵng by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the second term of co-operation after the first MoU inked in 2019-22.

IPA Đà Nẵng said the two partners would promote and exchange information on investment environment and preferential policies of Đà Nẵng to Japanese businesses, giving a helping hand in setting up projects in the city as well as hosting investment conferences and business linking events in the coming years.

Pasona said it would help the city attract key and high-value investment industries, including hot global trend semiconductor manufacturing, in line with Đà Nẵng’s Master Plan.

Pasona set up its subsidiary Pasona Tech Việt Nam and had a 16-year operation in Việt Nam with offices in Hà Nội, HCM City and Đà Nẵng.

Pasona Tech Việt Nam successfully built an Information Technology (IT) LAB in Đà Nẵng for training human resources in digital transformation, and had employed 500 qualified students for the Japanese market, according to IPA.

The central hub is home to 230 projects from Japan worth US$1.04 billion, making Japan a leader among 40 foreign direct investment (FDI) sources of Đà Nẵng, and accounting for 25 per cent of the city’s overall investment source.

Earlier, the city had organised an Invest Đà Nẵng promotion event in Fukuyama, Hiroshima, Japan, and a meeting with representatives of Bingo Semiconductor Technology Promotion Association (BISTEC) and 50 businesses in the industry.

Đà Nẵng and Japan had built up good co-operation in human resource training in IT as 13,000 graduated students, 800 of which were IT engineers, had been sent from central Việt Nam to Japan in the last eight years.

Nine provinces and cities – Yokohama, Nagasaki, Chiba, Kawasaki, Shizuoka, Fukuoka, Izumisano, Kisarazu and Osaka – and 128 businesses from Japan agreed to employ qualified students from Đà Nẵng to work and study in Japan.

Meanwhile, Japan has become a major export market for the city’s software with a 36 per cent share in the city’s $132 million turnover of software exports in 2022.

Đà Nẵng City-based Đông Á private University and Sun Frontier Group from Japan also agreed to a deal on high-quality human resources training for the Japanese market from 2025. — VNS
