HCM CITY (Biz Hub) — More than 1 million customers have used the services of Home Credit since the beginning of the year, helping the company become one of the leading consumption credit companies in the country.

The company's CEO Friedrich Weiss said the figure increased by 20 per cent compared to last year.

As of October, Home Credit's total number of customers was 2.76 million.

The average number of applications received daily this year was 5,400, a rise of 9 per cent year-on-year.

Weiss said: "Given competition in the market, we decided to focus on enhancing service quality. It is important for us to invest in the future to keep the number-one position in the Vietnamese market."

Viet Nam, with its population of more than 90 million and its large group of working-age people, has great potential in the consumption financial market, especially now that only a small percentage of people can access financial services provided by banks, he said.

Stoxplus, a financial information provider, said that Viet Nam's consumer credit market had reached US$10.4 billion as of late 2014, about 6 per cent of the banking system's total outstanding loans. — VNS
