French supply chain operator FM Logistic has set up a 20,000sq.m urban distribution centre in the southern province of Binh Duong as part of a new strategy it calls ‘Powering 2030’.
The site, just 15km from the centre of HCM City, would enable faster deliveries to retail stores and consumers, and serve as a multi-client urban distribution centre for customers in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) and retail industries, it said.
It will integrate warehousing, fulfilment and distribution under one roof and focus on omnichannel distribution to HCM City.
Powering 2030 seeks to address the profound changes in the retail and FMCG industries and supply chain management as consumers spend more online.
FM Logistic said it aims to double its revenues to three billion euros (US$3.3 million) in 2030 by focusing on omnichannel supply chain services, urban logistics, automation, and sustainability.
It said one of its first customers is a large international FMCG company that awarded a major contract in February to manage omnichannel fulfilment and last-mile delivery for nearly 10,000 traditional grocery stores in HCM City.
COVID-19 has given a boost to omnichannel commerce, which is a multichannel approach to sales that focuses on providing a seamless customer experience to buyers whether online or in a brick-and-mortar store.
“As we face profound changes in consumption patterns, our ambition is to help our customers build sustainable omnichannel supply chains,” its Asia managing director Stephane Descarpentries said.
“In Viet Nam, this strategy will be supported by investments in an end-to-end digital eco-system supporting efficient omnichannel operations and urban logistics and pioneering projects in automation and green deliveries.”
