FrieslandCampina Vietnam’s Dutch Lady dairy brand has collaborated with British NGO Newborns to donate 6,000 cartons of milk to pregnant women with COVID-19 at the Hanoi Obstetrics and Gynaecology Hospital.

The donation was made under a programme called ‘Better Nutrition For The World, We Care We Share’ launched in 2020.

Ta Thuy Ha, marketing director of FrieslandCampina Vietnam, said: “The pandemic has had a serious impact on our lives over the past two years.

“We’ve seen incredible people from around the world step up to do heroic work protecting their communities and we all owe a huge debt to our health professionals.”

The brand has focused on obstetrics and paediatrics hospitals to make donations since mothers and newborns are vulnerable to the virus and thus in need of special care.

Dr Ho Thu Thuy, deputy head of the the Hanoi Obstetrics and Gynaecology Hospital’s nutrition department, said pregnant women have special nutritional requirements, especially before and during pregnancy and while breastfeeding, and this is when nutritional vulnerability is greatest.

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, energy and nutritional needs increase. Meeting them is critical for women’s health and that of their child in the womb and throughout early childhood. — VNS
