NINH THUAN (Biz Hub) – Diageo Viet Nam Limited donated water-filtration systems worth a total of VND335 million (US$16,000) to eight primary schools in poor rural areas in the south-central province of Ninh Thuan on Friday.

The company and its partner, the East Meets West Foundation, will offer students and their parents training in hygiene and sanitation.

Diageo's sponsorship is part of two global programmes, "Water for Life" and "Plan W", that aim to empower women through learning.

Since 2011, Diageo Viet Nam and East Meets West Foundation have brought safe drinking-water systems to over 28,000 students at 41 schools in rural areas in Ninh Thuan Province.

In a press release, the general manager of Diageo Viet Nam, Stephane Gripon, said the water-filtration systems would supply safe drinking water to more than 4,700 students.

"We hope to help students learn and become more active as they pursue their studies by reducing their risk of water-borne diseases. By providing clean and safe water for them to drink and hygiene training, we can clear a path for them to focus on their education and future," Gripon said.
