Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) of Denmark and Đại Dũng Group on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the development and construction of monopile foundations and steel structures for offshore wind power projects in Việt Nam.

The signing ceremony was under the workshop “Bình Thuận: Prospects for the development of the offshore wind power industry to promote the marine economy.”

The workshop was co-organised by CIP, the Union of Science and Technology Associations and the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Bình Thuận to introduce the opportunities from offshore wind power development and its ability to coexist with other marine activities, in terms of socio-economic benefits, local supply chain and employment opportunities.

Stuart Livesey, representative of CIP in Việt Nam and CEO of the 3.5GW La Gàn Offshore Wind Farm, said: “In order to contribute to the sustainable development of the offshore wind power market in Việt Nam, CIP always aspires to accompany qualified partners and suppliers to jointly promote the domestic supply chain. Đại Dũng are a very capable and reliable steel fabricator in Việt Nam and have plans to expand their capabilities with supply chain investments in the Bình Thuận area, which in turn will boost the offshore wind industry from this region. The MoU between CIP and Đại Dũng Group not only shows our confidence in the capacity of domestic manufacturers, but also promises to open up many opportunities for supply chain development associated with the offshore wind power industry in Việt Nam.”

The MoU marks the co-operation between a capable domestic infrastructure provider and an internationally experienced offshore wind power investor, utilising the strengths of each party to initiate the offshore wind power industry in Việt Nam, and to achieve the net emission reduction goal through energy transition and renewable energy development, and sharing knowledge.

Stuart said Bình Thuận is one of the areas with the best wind potential in Việt Nam, the province has ideal seabed conditions for installing fixed-bottom wind turbine foundations and has the potential to develop seaports and large-scale power grid support from offshore wind energy. The implementation of an offshore wind project promises to create high-quality jobs for Vietnamese workforce in the local province and nationally, providing opportunities to transfer advanced technologies and to develop the local supply chain and to help this evolve to take advantage of increasing opportunities.

Phan Văn Đăng, deputy chairman of Bình Thuận Province People's Committee, affirmed the province's determination in creating a favourable and friendly environment for offshore wind power investors.

Nicolai Prytz, Danish ambassador to Việt Nam, highly appreciates the determination of the province and said that as a pioneer and a world leader in offshore wind energy since 1991, Denmark is keen to share the experiences and support Bình Thuận in particular and Việt Nam in general to successfully initiate the offshore wind industry.

CIP is one of the world's top three offshore wind developers and the largest global greenfield renewable energy development investor headquartered in Denmark.
