Huy Long An Limited Company will launch Wagyu beef in the Vietnamese market next March under the FOHLA WAGYU brand.

Vo Quang Huy, the company’s director, said a year ago his company and Japan’s Sawai Farm signed an agreement to develop a farming model for Wagyu beef in Viet Nam.

Cows are now being raised on a 10ha farm belonging to his company in the southern province of Long An’s Duc Hue District with close oversight of the entire production chain by and technical guidance from Japanese experts to make sure the meat meets Japanese standards, he said.

Sawai Farm’s experts come every month to the farm to provide training, monitor and evaluate the processing process and help set up a detailed management programme to help the Wagyu cows easily adapt to the humid and hot weather conditions.

They are bred in individual cages with different feeds according to their ages, which ensures they have very fine fat marbling, he said.

After 15-18 months of rearing, the cows reach a weight of 750-850kg.

Sawai Farm is experienced in raising Wagyu cows under the brand OHMI, one of the three most famous in Japan.
