Vingroup and its subsidiaries announced a donation of VNĐ250 billion (approximately US$10 million) on September 12 to support people affected by Typhoon Yagi and storm-related flooding.
The funds will be directly allocated to emergency relief activities such as rebuilding approximately 2,000 collapsed houses, providing financial support of up to VNĐ300 million to families who have lost loved ones and contributing to the reconstruction of infrastructure and public facilities to help residents quickly stabilise their lives after the disaster.
The budget comes from two sources: funds from Vingroup and its member companies and voluntary contributions from more than 130,000 Vingroup employees across the system.
Depending on the situation, the Emergency Relief Fund will be used to rebuild thousands of homes for families who lost their houses in the recent storms and floods. It will also provide financial support of VNĐ150-300 million to each family that lost a loved one due to the natural disaster.
The remaining funds will be used to assist families with members who were injured in the storm or those whose livelihoods were severely affected, such as loss of crops or livestock. Funding will also go towards clean-up efforts as well as contributing to the reconstruction of essential infrastructure and public works.
Immediately after the announcement, Thien Tam Charity Fund (under Vingroup) formed a rapid response team to directly reach out to each disaster-affected locality and coordinate to implement support measures for the people.
Families with completely collapsed or severely damaged houses or with deceased family members (especially breadwinners) will be given special priority. In addition to direct implementation, Thien Tam Charity Fund will also collaborate with media agencies to spread support and resources to people as soon as possible. — VNS
