Mobile service provider Vietnamobile has upgraded its Thanh SIM plan into a super low-cost plan called "Sieu Thanh SIM” with effect from May.
For VND40,000 (US$1.75) per month existing subscribers will get customers 4GB of 4G data per day, free messages and calls within the network and external calls at a lower rate of VND550 per minute, down from the earlier VNĐ680.
New subscribers have to buy a sim card for VND60,000 ($2.62).
Existing customers can press *989# and wait for a confirmation message from the operator to complete the upgrade.
Elizabete Fong, general director of Vietnamobile, said: “Sieu Thanh SIM could meet a great demand among Vietnamese for free calls and messaging services.”
Vietnamobile is the only telecom company in the country in which a foreign firm, the Hong Kong-based Hutchison Telecommunication, has a stake. It is a joint venture with Ha Noi Telecom.
The firm’s 3G network covers all 63 provinces, while its 4G services are available in 10 cities and provinces: Ha Noi, Thai Nguyen, Bac Ninh, Bac Giang, Hai Duong, Hai Phong, Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Nghe An, and Thanh Hoa. — VNS
