HCM CITY (Biz Hub) — VietJet and Vietnam Airlines (VNA) have joined forces to test a new flight path over parts of Laos and Cambodia.
The new path would greatly reduce the flight time between Noi Bai International Airport in Ha Noi and HCM City's Tan Son Nhat Airport.
This flight path, dubbed "the Golden Route", would see the two carriers flying over southern Laos and the northwestern corner of Cambodia, and could cut approximately 30 minutes of flying time between the two cities, thus potentially saving both airlines hundreds of millions of dollars in production costs annually.
In accordance with the Civil Aviation Authority of Viet Nam, both airlines ran a series of simulated flights from August 29 to September 3 to fully assess the route. VietJet and Vietnam Airlines will subsequently submit a report on cost efficiency and other operational benefits after a strict evaluation is carried out. In due course, the airlines will decide whether or not they should alter their current routes between the capital and the southern hub which operate entirely within Vietnamese airspace.
VietJet ran its simulations with an Airbus A320, the airline's aircraft of choice.
Now Viet Nam's fastest growing airline, operating 27 domestic and international routes, VietJet has teamed up with the world's leading aviation companies, such as Airbus, Cyber Source (USA) and SIAEC–Singapore Airlines (Singapore), to assemble the region's most modern aircraft fleet.
The airline plans to add new routes and offer even higher quality services in line with its mission to offer customers the best possible flying experience for the best possible prices.
Late last week, the carrier announced the launch of a new daily route between Ha Noi and Can Tho on October 17 in an attempt to tap the growing demand for travel between the two cities.
The new flight, with a weekly capacity of 2,520 seats, will commence operations with a round trip every day.
To celebrate the occasion, VietJet will immediately include the route in its latest mega promotion, which means travellers can purchase tickets from VND9,000 (US$0.42) every day until September 29. The super-cheap fares are available from noon to 2pm and apply to all 27 domestic and international routes (VietJet now flies to Thailand, Singapore and South Korea). —VNS
