NGHỆ AN — Two companies under the umbrella of milk and dairy TH Group have received carbon-neutral certification for their production.

They are the TH Milk Joint Stock Company and Núi Tiên Pure Water Company Limited.

Their production has been certified as meeting the PAS 2060:2014 standards by the British Standards Institute (BSI) by Control Union, an independent certification organisation.

A carbon-neutral certification confirms a company's commitment to reduce carbon emissions in their production.

According to the Control Union’s assessment, the two companies were able to reduce 26,670 tonnes and 11,631 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2), respectively.

To achieve these figures, from 2023, the TH Milk Joint Stock Company replaced all oil-fired boilers at its dairy plant with biomass boilers, which reduced about 7,000 tonnes of CO2 from the milk production process.

All metal halide high-pressure lamps in the plant were replaced with LED lights, which helped save electricity and reduce emissions by about 214 tonnes of CO2.

Several other initiatives were implemented at the plant to reduce emissions and improve production efficiency.

Núi Tiên Pure Water Co., Ltd. focussed on reducing plastic in its products by eliminating shrink film on bottle caps, reducing the proportion of plastic in each bottle, decreasing the thickness of plastic labels and using less glue to stick straws onto beverage cartons. These solutions helped the company to reduce around 600 tonnes of plastic each year.

The Núi Tiên factory is also actively promoting collaboration with partners to expand its existing solar power system, contributing to a reduction of nearly 1,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.

The CEO of Control Union Việt Nam Wouter Melis van Ravenhorst, said: “Only a few companies in Việt Nam have been certified for carbon neutrality and two of them belong to TH Group, which is quite remarkable.

"Their achievements prove that sustainable development is achievable and can yield positive results when businesses prioritise long-term environmental strategies,” he said. — BIZHUB/VNS
