HA NOI (Biz Hub) — Three students from Ha Noi and HCM City have won the national Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship.
They will now represent Viet Nam in the final round to be held in Texas, the United States, from August 9 to 12.
The three students are Tran Minh Tien from Banking University in HCM City, and Pham Truong Giang and Nguyen Thi Hien Gia from Hanoi Foreign Trade University. They topped in the Microsoft Word 2010, Microsoft Excel 2010 and Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 categories.
At a ceremony held on June 16 in Ha Noi, the organisers of the competition awarded a gold medal, a silver medal and a bronze medal and 30 consolation prizes for participants in each category.
"In the context of global integration, Vietnamese workers need to have the requirements of abilities and knowledge to participate in marketplaces beyond the national territory. In the background of the establishment of the ASEAN Economic Community at the end of this year, having informatics skills and knowing foreign languages are obligations for students so that they can find jobs not only in Viet Nam, but in other countries in the ASEAN region," Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Vinh Hien said.
"The competition contributes to helping universities and schools affirm their training quality in information technology, as well as increase the quality of human resources and develop skills of the young people to meet the requirements for global integration."
The sixth Microsoft Office competition in Viet Nam attracted the highest number of participants -- 260 -- from 63 cities and provinces. It was organised by the education and training ministry, IIG Vietnam, Viettel Corporation and Tuoi Tre Newspaper. — VNS
