Thu Duc Thermal Power Plant, in co-operation with Bach Khoa Investment and Development of Solar Power Corporation (SolarBK Holdings), has developed a rooftop solar system to supply 53,000 kilowatt hours of renewable energy per year.
It is the first such system the plant has built to reduce carbon emissions.
The 36 kilowatt peak (KWp) system, which includes more than 100 rooftop solar panels, will cut 45 tonnes of carbon emissions each year.
According to Electricity Viet Nam (EVN), the country will eliminate 25 coal-fired power plants by 2030 – equal to 30,000MW of power.
There is great potential to develop rooftop solar energy in the country, with each square metre of solar panels able to produce four to five KWh each day.
HCM City has seen the fastest development of rooftop solar power on houses and office buildings, with 277,000 roofs available for solar systems.
The New Port-Song Than Inland Clearance Deport in Binh Duong was the first industrial zone to install a similar system on over 4,000sq.m of roofs. — VNS
