Truong Hai Automobile Joint Stock Company (Thaco) will export more than 1,000 cars to Myanmar and Thailand next year.
The models to be exported include the Kia Cerato and Kia Grand Carnival, which are made with 40 per cent domestically-produced parts, meeting the requirements of the ASEAN trade agreement in exports to ASEAN members, enjoying zero per cent import duty.
Thaco said it set a target to earn US$21 million from the export of auto parts in 2020, marking a year-on-year increase of $6.7 million.
The company has recently exported its first shipment of 120 Deluxe Kia Cerato cars to Myanmar, which were produced at the Thaco Kia Factory in Thaco Chu Lai Industrial Park in the central province of Quang Nam.
The import partner is Super Seven Stars Motors Industry Co., Ltd (SSS), based in Yangon, Myanmar. SSS is the exclusive distributor of Kia cars in Myanmar, manufacturing and trading Peugeot, SsangYong cars and buses.
Kia Cerato passenger cars are installed with parts produced at supporting industry plants in Thaco Chu Lai Industrial Park, including the body, seats, bumpers, wires, doors, hood, trunks, exhaust pipes, air conditioners and AVN (audio-visual equipment and car navigation).
The Kia Cerato body is manufactured on modern production lines using technology imported from South Korea. The car body is painted on a colour coating line, using modern wet-on-wet paint technology with automatic paint supply system, meeting the diverse requirements of colours according to customer needs.
The body structure is rigorously checked by a Coordinate Measuring Machine imported from Japan.
Kia Cerato is one of the best-selling cars under the Kia brand in Viet Nam. Thaco has become the Kia Motors' manufacturing hub in ASEAN for the export of completely-built units and spare parts in the region. — VNS
