Samsung Vietnam helps develop Korean studies in Viet Nam

Samsung Vietnam in co-ordination with the Korea Foundation (KF) awarded scholarships to 135 outstanding students majoring in Korean worth a total of US$33,750.

The scholarship recipients are students majoring in Korean studies of six Vietnamese universities/colleges.

Since December 1995, through the Korea Foundation – KF, Samsung Electronics has donated $1 million to create a foundation to promote the Samsung – Viet Nam Academic Exchange Programme.

Over the past 25 years, the KF and Samsung Electronics have awarded scholarships to a total of 2,700 students across the country, held academic seminars and run trips to visit and experience South Korea for future young leaders worth a total amount of nearly VND20 billion.

From this year, the KF-Samsung Foundation will focus on supporting the expansion of Korean language courses and awarding scholarships to students at 12 universities/colleges specialising in Korean nationwide.

Earlier, the scholarship was given to 135 excellent students from six schools in the south-central region.

In the next five years, Samsung and the KF Foundation will annually award scholarships to 270 excellent students specialising in Korean from 12 universities across the country. The total value of the scholarship is $337,500 in five years.

In addition, in the next three years, Samsung and the KF Foundation also plan to fund training equipment such as TVs, projectors and sound systems to improve the facilities in classrooms and language practice rooms in the Korean faculties of 12 universities with a total value of $360,000.

Speaking at the scholarship award ceremony, Choi Joo Ho, President of Samsung Vietnam, said: “Samsung always strives to implement the corporate social responsibility activities to nurture and develop human resources for the future. Through the Samsung-KF scholarship award ceremony today, we hope that the Korean ability of Viet Nam's next generations will be further promoted and will be the contributors to develop a good friendship between Viet Nam and Korea.” — VNS
