Samsung Viet Nam Mobile Research and Development Centre (SVMC) launched the Samsung Collegiate Programming Cup (SCPC) 2017, an international programming contest for students early this week.

Samsung Electronics, which has been hosting the SCPC in Korea since 2015, will offer Vietnamese and Indian students the chance to participate in the final round in South Korea for the first time this year. This is because the R&D centres in Viet Nam and India are the largest and the most important among Samsung’s global R&D centres, and the excellence of the local software workforce is proven.

The SCPC 2017 offers an international playground for students to see, learn and gain more skills in programming, algorithmic problem-solving, developing ideas, logical thinking, to apply programming knowledge to real life, as well as to catch up with the trends of the 4th industrial revolution.

The contest is aimed at students in universities and institutes across the nation. Students can register online from May 25 to June 22 on the official contest website, codeground.org.

Contestants will have to take a test on algorithms and data structures on computers (using programming languages: C/C++/Java).

The contest will have three rounds. Based on the results of the second round, the organising committee will select the best five candidates, who will advance to the final round (offline), which will be held in South Korea on August 17.

This year, the total value of the contest prize is around VND2.5 billion (US$110,000).

The top five students will also get to tour Samsung’s headquarters in South Korea. — VNS
